Camp Check-in: Week 1
It’s a week into April, which also means a week into Camp NaNoWriMo! βΊ It’s going well so far:
I don’t really write on the weekends, so this will be it for the week. Unless I’m suddenly inspired, of course.
So, remember how I discovered Scrivener during NaNoWriMo last year in November? This Camp, I’ve discovered 4thewords instead. π I started an account a few days before Camp started, and I’ve been writing with it every day so far. Once my trial period is over, I’ll probably pay for a subscription. I normally hate subscription-based products, but 4thewords has been such a motivational tool for me, I wouldn’t mind paying for it. I’m always a sucker for gamified apps or methods to help with productivity. π€£ I used similar gamified apps to keep track of my daily tasks and also for finances.
I mentioned in my last post that I hadn’t fully decided on my Camp NaNo project. In the end, I decided to work on 3 projects at once for Camp this April: the complete rewrite of Something Better, Chapter 16 of Auld Lang Syne, and the sequel to The Rapihi Chronicles. So far, I’ve worked mostly on Something Better and finished the first chapter of The Rapihi Chronicles 2! π I’m quite happy with the way this is progressing, especially with Something Better. I’m enjoying writing it again, just letting go and seeing where the story takes me, instead of over-planning and stressing myself out. That’s also part of the reason I decided to write on 4thewords β probably it’s game-based, I feel more relaxed when I’m writing with it. I don’t keep checking myself for mistakes or pressuring myself about how stupid the story sounds (and I did feel like it sounded quite stupid at the beginning). I simply let myself tell the story.
I will return to Scrivener for editing. It puts me into a different mood; makes me feel like I need to do everything properly.
On a work-related note, I’ve been feeling proud of myself these couple of days, because I’ve discovered I’ve gotten firmer about speaking my mind and getting people to listen to me. Even my friend said that I sound firm and like someone who gets things done. π I love that.
I’ve also gotten back into reading! Finished 3 books this week and hopefully I will continue on this streak! I’ve taken a look at my Goodreads reading challenge and realised that I’m way behind… Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up this month.
And now, I’m completely ready for the weekend β and my long-awaited sushi meal tonight! π
